In order to go where we wanted to explore, we had to start at the factory--our own.

Mr. Brown (Brownie) started Brownies Third Lung™ (BTL) in 1969 based on his own personal desire to dive for tropical fish with as much freedom as possible. The nascent Brownie's Third Lung thrived as a garage industry for 16 years. At age 18, Robert Carmichael became Brownie's first full time (non-owner) employee in 1980. Six years later Robert secured controlling interest in the company, and under Carmichael's leadership phase two of the Brownie™ revolution began.

After a complete redesign of the Brownie's Third Lung™ hookah, Brownie's™ focused its attention on broader distribution and increased local visibility. Recreational hookah diving owes its popularity to the efforts of Brownie's Third Lung over the last thirty years, just as our competitors' products are openly recognized as pale imitations of innovative designs that we've introduced and improved upon in our ongoing quest to build the best hookah diving rigs available anywhere!
